[rtl]The newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported Friday that Iraq has agreed with international parties including Interpol to fight corruption and money-laundering and to hold senior corrupt bankers, senior contractors and others, including a number of fugitive ministers, accountable.[/rtl]
[rtl]The newspaper said in a report, seen by "Trend Press" that "Baghdad officially received from the Lebanese authorities and the former Iraqi Minister of Trade Abdul Falah al-Sudani after his arrest at Beirut International Airport late last year."[/rtl]
[rtl]The newspaper quoted a source in the Integrity Commission in press statements on Thursday that "the Iraqi authorities received the former Minister of Commerce required for the Iraqi judiciary Abdul Falah al-Sudani required to judge on corruption charges."[/rtl]
[rtl]The source added that "the Sudanese arrived in Iraq on board a plane hidden with the Director General of the Integrity Commission and security officers," noting that "he will face nine cases of corruption."[/rtl]
[rtl]Interpol chief Gurgen Stoke said he was visiting Iraq at a meeting in Davos with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.[/rtl]
[rtl]"The cooperation between Iraq and Iraq in the fight against organized crime and terrorism and those involved in corruption issues was discussed," he said in a statement.[/rtl]
[rtl]"The importance of applying the law to everyone and anyone who stole or wasted public money, especially the big corrupt ones, to send a message of reassurance to the Iraqi people that there is accountability for every corrupt, big or small," MP Majida al-Tamimi, a member of parliament's finance committee, was quoted as saying.[/rtl]
[rtl]Tamimi added that "Iraq today is a country of institutions has benefited from previous mistakes that led to the emptying of the treasury and the high volume of indebtedness and its negative effects on the overall economic activities."[/rtl]
[rtl]Tamimi explained that "the corruption of the Ministry of Commerce is closely linked to the strength of citizens and notes the significant decline in the quantity and quality of the ration card items after 2003, which made many citizens compare those words before the fall of the regime and after taking into consideration the size of explosive budgets and large specialties of the ration card, which makes us stress Not to compromise in the accounting of corrupt and take all legal action against them. "[/rtl]
[rtl]The newspaper quoted MP Rahim Darraji, a member of the Integrity Committee in the Iraqi parliament, as saying that "the arrest of Abdel Falah al-Sudani and his refuge in Baghdad is fair to the oppressed and the public money that was wasted during the time of this minister who was smuggled from Iraq on bail of 50 million Iraqi dinars While it caused waste and theft of more than two billion dollars. "[/rtl]
[rtl]"An open and transparent investigation before the Iraqi people and the media will lead to the collapse of the entire corruption system and all the thieves who caused all this waste and theft will be seen because the Sudanese know them well," Darraji said.[/rtl]
[rtl]He pointed out that "the political interference during the last period, as well as the weakness of the justice system at the time was a reason to smuggle Sudan and try to dilute his case, which is no longer possible to remain silent."[/rtl]
[rtl]In response to INTERPOL's intention to visit Iraq during the coming period, Darraji said, "There is an Iraqi agreement with international bodies, including INTERPOL, to fight corruption and money laundering, so I expect that the coming days will see clear accountability for corrupt senior bankers, A number of ministers fleeing, including former defense ministers Hazem Shaalan, Abdul Qadir al-Obeidi and former ministers of electricity Ayham al-Samarrai and Karim Wahid. "[/rtl]
[rtl]"The size of thefts caused by these people to public money in Iraq amounted to 320 billion US dollars.[/rtl]
