    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Political researcher Luqman Hussein confirmed today, Thursday (November 14, 2024), that the meetings of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani with leaders of the Kurdish opposition parties during his visit to the Kurdistan Region indicate recognition of the weight of those parties.
Hussein said in an interview with Baghdad Today that "the meetings that Al-Sudani held in Kurdistan confirm the Iraqi government's recognition of the weight of the opposition, and not limiting the Kurdish role to the two Kurdish parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, only."
He pointed out that "the meetings confirm that there is a desire from Al-Sudani for the necessity of the opposition and its parties participating in forming the next Kurdistan Regional Government, and not limiting it to the two parties, because the participation of these parties in the government promotes stability in the region, and this is important for Baghdad."
Yesterday, Wednesday, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani made a shuttle visit to the Kurdistan Region, which included the governorates of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, to discuss a number of files, most notably the efforts to form the regional government.
According to officials in the region, Al-Sudani discussed during the visit a number of files including the efforts to form the Kurdistan Regional Government, the differences between the parties that won the recent elections, the file of resuming oil exports from the Kurdistan Region, after the recent decision of the Council of Ministers to form a committee to evaluate the cost of extracting and transporting oil, the region’s affairs in the general budget, employee salaries and the population census, as well as the steps to implement the development road project.
