Launching a social study of those covered by the aid according to the results of a new survey
Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ahmed Al-Asadi confirmed that there are tens of thousands of foreign workers in Basra Governorate illegally, who do not have work permits, and are not registered with social security, threatening to "hold all labor departments responsible in the event of procrastination" in organizing their files legally.
Al-Asadi stated in a meeting held with the ministry’s department officials in Basra Governorate, today, Saturday, “A series of measures taken by the ministry include: announcing soon the second batch of social protection beneficiaries who were transferred to the police force, amounting to 8,000, if it arrives from the Ministry of Interior,” noting that “more than 12,000 people have benefited as a first batch from the step.”
Al-Asadi pointed out that more than 150 families have benefited from social protection in Basra Governorate, and the ministry is "in the process of completing the procedures for more than 7,000 families of people with disabilities, orphans, and children with diabetes within the last batch of 62,000 families."
Al-Asadi also pointed out in his speech that "the ministry removed a group from the Social Protection Department and transferred them to the private sector, through the Retirement and Social Protection Law, and the number of beneficiaries of the decision reached more than seven thousand beneficiaries," indicating that "in cooperation with the various ministries, 4 thousand families were transferred from social protection to the Ministry of Education and the Federal Service Council."
He said: "We will launch an extensive social study of all those covered by social protection assistance, according to the outcomes of the new socio-economic survey," stressing that the population census process that Iraq will witness "will have a positive impact on the procedures of the Social Protection Authority."
In another part of the talk, Al-Asadi claimed that “the measures of the National Service Government contributed to reducing the poverty rate from 22% to 16.5%, and this will be reflected in our measures to address multidimensional poverty.”
