    Baghdad Today - Basra
Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ahmed Al-Asadi said today, Saturday (November 16, 2024), that the measures of the National Service Government contributed to reducing the poverty rate from 22 % to 16.5 % , which will be reflected in addressing multidimensional poverty.
Al-Asadi announced in a meeting he held with the ministry’s department officials in Basra Governorate, according to a statement by the ministry received by “Baghdad Today,” that a series of measures would be taken, including the imminent announcement of the second batch of social protection beneficiaries who were transferred to the police force, amounting to 8,000, if they arrive from the Ministry of Interior.
The Minister pointed out that "there are tens of thousands of foreign workers in Basra Governorate illegally who do not have work permits and are not registered with social security, threatening to hold all labor departments responsible in the event of procrastination."
According to the statement, Al-Asadi congratulated "the families of the beneficiaries who were transferred to the Ministry of Interior after the graduation of the first batch of more than 12,000 beneficiaries."
He added, "The number of families benefiting from social protection in Basra Governorate has reached more than 150 thousand families, noting that we are in the process of completing the procedures for more than 7 thousand families of people with disabilities, orphans and children with diabetes within the last batch of 62 thousand families."
The Minister announced "the launch of a campaign to maintain all social protection departments, including the protection branch in Basra, indicating that" the number of beneficiaries who were transferred from social protection to the private sector through the Retirement and Social Security Law reached more than 7,000 beneficiaries."
Al-Asadi continued, "4,000 families were transferred from social protection to the Ministry of Education and the Federal Service Council in cooperation with various ministries, and an extensive social study will be launched for all those covered by social protection assistance according to the outcomes of the new socio-economic survey."
