    The Supreme Federal Court, the highest judicial authority in Iraq on Wednesday, responded to requests to issue a "state order" to stop the third amendment by the outgoing House of Representatives on the election law.
    The Iraqi parliament decided last Wednesday to re-count and hand counting of votes in the last legislative elections held on May 12 last year, where the Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr won a surprise.
    The decisions of the Parliament included the withdrawal of the Office of the Commission in the Electoral Commission, the assignment of nine judges to manage their functions, and the elimination of reliance on the electronic results accelerator.
    "The Federal Supreme Court held its session today under the chairmanship of Judge Medhat Al-Mahmoud and the attendance of all the members of the judges," said the court's spokesman Ayas al-Samuk in a statement today. "Five applications were considered for issuing a state decision to suspend the implementation of the provisions of the Third Amendment Law ).
    The Mahmud had announced on Tuesday received a request from the Electoral Commission for elections to stop the third amendment to the election law, which was approved by the outgoing House of Representatives recently.
    Al-Samok added that "after the deliberation, the Federal Supreme Court found that the decision on the requests and the issuance of a decision on them before standing on the other party's statements in cases challenged by the provisions of the Third Amendment Law referred to negatively or positively, would give a sense of the opinion of the court in the original case in advance.
    "The Federal Supreme Court has affirmed that the established judicial norms prohibit the court from expressing an opinion or a hint on the original case before it when issuing the ruling," the spokesman said.     The Supreme Judicial Council announced on Monday a meeting of judges assigned to the functions of the Board of Commissioners, during which the president and his deputy and the director of the electoral district were named.
    "The judges assigned to carry out the duties of the Board of Commissioners held a meeting this morning at the Council's headquarters, during which the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners and his deputy were named," Judge Abdul Sattar Birqdar, spokesman of the Supreme Judicial Council, told AFP.
    Berkdar added that "the meeting also included the naming of a decision of the Board of Commissioners as well as naming the media spokesman on behalf of the Independent High Electoral Commission was also approached the Kurdistan Regional Council to nominate three judges to manage the offices of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Dohuk.
