A fruitful international-Japanese partnership produces its eighth batch... Celebrating the success of the "Vocational Training for Young Auto Technicians" program in Baghdad

[rtl]Baghdad / NINA / The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) announced the successful completion of the Automotive Technicians Training Program, in cooperation with Toyota Iraq, a vocational training initiative funded by the Federal Government of Germany through the German Development Bank (KW), with the aim of empowering youth in Baghdad.
Nineteen young trainees participated in a comprehensive three-month training course, in which the program provided an integrated approach of classroom education and practical training at Toyota dealerships in the capital, Baghdad, and Wasit Governorate, which helped build the trainees' basic skills, as the training covered essential skills such as basic vehicle maintenance, repair techniques, and work and safety principles in environmentally friendly automotive services. Thus, graduates of the program carry an internationally recognized qualification certificate, which will significantly increase their employment opportunities in the field of work.
“We are proud to witness the success of this initiative, which reflects our commitment to supporting the youth of Iraq and strengthening resilience in conflict-affected communities,” said Sacha Grauman, UNDP Deputy Representative and Country Director. “This partnership with Toyota Iraq is a great example of how public-private sector collaboration can create sustainable opportunities for vulnerable populations.”
He added, “Today, we celebrate this large group of graduates from the Automotive Technicians Program, in an initiative that is part of promoting progress and development, in partnership between UNDP and Toyota Iraq, which has witnessed great efforts since its inception to empower youth and support vocational skills, which has a significant impact on the lives of individuals and their communities, and it is an opportunity to transform their hopes into achievements on the ground.”
The UN Representative confirmed that “the initiative reached 7,000 people who were employed and provided with opportunities and moving forward, and we are committed to developing the skills of youth and women everywhere, and our vision is in line with “Iraq Vision 2030” for a sustainable and inclusive future, and we work together to support innovation and create job opportunities.”
For his part, the Japanese Ambassador to Iraq, Futoshi Matsumoto, praised the graduation of the eighth batch of trainees in this technical development program, praising the efforts of Toyota Iraq and the United Nations Development Program through German funding, as well as the cooperation of representatives of the Iraqi government.
The Japanese Ambassador stressed the importance of this training provided by the Japanese company, pointing to the increasing local demand for such training provided by Japan to support and develop the capabilities of Iraqi youth towards advanced levels, wishing all trainees continued success in obtaining better jobs and positions in modern Iraqi companies, and Toyota Iraq can cooperate to work with them in the near future.
He added, "Everyone has cooperated to make the company's social responsibility a success, and this idea may not be fully understood within Iraq due to the presence of weaknesses in the private sector, but internationally and in the world, this idea is completely widespread in Japan, for example, through companies, and without this idea, no company can operate properly," considering that "any Iraqi company that wants to work successfully, this idea is necessary for its future, and without it, the company and its owners cannot succeed."
In turn, the President of Toyota Iraq, Sardar Al-Bebany, praised the efforts that contributed to achieving this success and support for Iraqi youth, stressing the transformative power provided by education and training opportunities, especially for young people who represent the future of Iraq.
He added, "This vocational training program is not only to develop technical skills, but also to enable Iraqi youth to build a better future for themselves and contribute to the growth of the Iraqi economy. We are committed to supporting the new generation of professionals in the automotive industry and strengthening a skilled workforce that will drive Iraq's development in the coming years."
He explained, "This initiative is part of the Building Resilience through Employment Enhancement (BREPI) project, which reached a total of 10,731 trainees in October 2024 in the governorates of Anbar, Nineveh, Kirkuk, Diyala, and Salah al-Din, highlighting the significant impact of vocational training in enhancing recovery and resilience in Iraq," considering "this partnership an important step towards achieving the Iraq 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals by improving employability, promoting inclusive economic growth, and supporting the effective participation of youth, women, and persons with disabilities in the development process." / End 5[/rtl]
