UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutierrez on Sunday called on parties to the conflict in Afghanistan to prevent the failure of a peaceful settlement in the country.
"The Secretary-General calls upon the parties not to allow the control of those who try to thwart attempts at a peaceful settlement, condemning the attack in Nangarhar state, expressing his condolences to the families of the victims and wishing speedy recovery to those injured," the statement said.
On Saturday in Nangarhar province, where a group of Taliban supporters and civilians were celebrating Eid al-Fitr, a powerful explosion killed 26 people and wounded 50 others.
