    China and the United States have a constructive and frank discussion on trade issues, the Commerce Ministry said in a statement posted on its website on Friday.

    Chinese officials led by Deputy Commerce Minister Wang Xuwen held talks with their US counterparts on Wednesday and Thursday in the United States.

    The Commerce Department said the two sides would be in touch on the next steps.

    China and the United States during the talks in Washington conducted a frank and constructive exchange of views on issues of mutual interest, the Ministry of Commerce announced.

    [rtl] It is worth mentioning that theincrease in customs duties between the United States and China came into effect on July 6 . On June 15, the United States announced import duties of 25 percent on imports from China, estimated at 50 billion dollars a year.[/rtl]

    [rtl]China responded by imposing a 25 percent import duty on goods imported from the United States worth about $ 34 billion as of July 6.[/rtl]

    [rtl]On July 20, US President Donald Trump announced his willingness to charge up to $ 500 billion in goods imported from China if China continued to raise tariffs on US products.[/rtl]

    [rtl]It announced that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, China has begun procedures in the WTO, because of the determination of the United States to impose new additional duties on Chinese goods worth $ 200 billion a year.[/rtl]

    [rtl]Trade talks between the two countries took place between May 3-4, the first of its kind since the escalation began due to US import duties on steel and aluminum, as well as Washington's threats to introduce trade tariffs affecting Chinese exports to the United States as much as 150 billion dollars annually.   [/rtl]
