The financial director of Huawei, Canada, was arrested for violating sanctions on Iran
Canada has arrested Huawei's chief financial officer in Vancouver, where she faces the prospect of being deported to the United States on suspicion of violating US sanctions on Iran, the Justice Department said on Wednesday.
An informed source said the arrest was linked to the violation of US sanctions. Reuters could not verify the nature of the violations.
Meng Wanzo, a board member and daughter of its founder, Rensheng, was arrested on December 1 and sets a date for Friday to appear before the court, a Justice Department spokesman said.
Huawei confirmed Meng's arrest in a statement and said she had not received enough information about the charges against her. She was not "aware of any violation committed by Ms. Meng".
