The Communist Party called on Friday, Abdul Mahdi to resign and form an independent interim government.
"We appeal to Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to resign and form an interim government from outside the political blocs and give legitimacy and executive powers from the parliament until early elections," Allawi said in a statement received by Mawazine News.
Dozens of protesters gathered on Thursday night in Tahrir Square in central Baghdad, a day before demonstrations coincide with the expiry of the religious authority's deadline.
Baghdad and the southern provinces on Friday witnessed a wave of mass protests that resulted in the death of 30 demonstrators and the injury of more than 900 people, including security men, as well as the burning of the headquarters of political parties.
