, The Parliamentary Legal Committee confirmed, on Tuesday, that early elections cannot be held until after the dissolution of the House of Representatives, while indicating the mechanism through which this is achieved.
Hussein Al-Oqabi, a member of the committee, told Mawazine News that "holding early elections needs two points. The first is to address the Independent High Electoral Commission regarding its willingness to hold elections."
Al-Aqabi added, "The second point from the constitutional point of view, no early elections can be held until after the House of Representatives votes to dissolve itself by two-thirds of the votes of its members."
He continued: "Then the government will be a caretaker government, and parliamentary elections will be called within 60 days of the date of the vote to dissolve the parliament." Ended 6/29 n
