On Tuesday, the dissolved Baghdad Provincial Council member Ali Al-Alaq said that the parliament violated the constitution by stopping the work of the provincial councils, pointing out that the provincial councils have challenged the parliament’s decision and are awaiting the court’s decision that was postponed to the next 9 March regarding the work of the provincial councils.
Al-Alaq said in a statement to "The Information", that "the parliament issued a decision contrary to Article 21 of the Constitution related to the provincial councils."
He added that "Parliament tried to remedy the error by changing the date for stopping the work of the councils scheduled for March 20, 2020 to hold the elections in next April. It has sought to amend the law and stop the work of the councils from the date of voting last November."
He explained that “more than 10 governorate councils have challenged the law that Parliament voted on, due to its violation of the constitution.” He pointed out that “the work of provincial councils is almost suspended, and some council members practice their work informally until the court’s decision is issued, postponing consideration of the law to the day of 9 Next March. ” 25 n ended
