The project manager, Asaad Abdul Rahim Al-Rashdi, said, "The work in the large port of Al-Fao began in stages, as its first stage includes the east and west breakwaters and the payment for the port services site and the rocky repayment of the container dock sites that have an area of 1750 meters, with digging the port basin and its channel, And also burying the services site and the sidewalks site and constructing the entrance to the project. "
He pointed out that "the first stage also includes the construction of the Faw-Umm Qasr road linking the port of Faw and the highway in Safwan with a length of 65 km, with the construction of the Khur Al-Zubair tunnel and the provision of water, electricity and service buildings, as well as the implementation of the internal rail network and linking with the national network 100 In addition to the establishment of the naval base within this stage, which was estimated to cost 4.4 billion euros.
Al-Rashidi pointed out, "The achievement of the breakwater east and west by 100 percent before the scheduled date," stressing that "the Grand Faw port project is economically important and is a qualitative move to connect Iraq with the world from its east link with the west, and that its implementation will change the global maritime transport map."
He stated that "the Minister of Planning made his first visit to the great port of Al-Faw a few days ago to follow up on its accomplishment." He added that "the Ministry of Transport has made great strides in order to implement it on time within the next three years as infrastructure."
