    On Wednesday, the Ministry of Agriculture announced the success of the safflower crop cultivation experiment in the country.

    The ministry's spokesman, Hamid Al-Nayef, said in a statement that "People" received a copy (April 28, 2021), that "a research conducted in three governorates (Najaf, Muthanna and Babil) reached good results on the cultivation of the safflower crop." It is expected for him that the yield per dunum of it without the use of fertilizers is estimated at 500 to 600 kg, and its price in the market is estimated at 900 thousand dinars. "  
    He explained that "safflower is one of the crops that are high in oil and have quick economic feasibility for farmers, because the demand for it is great, and it will contribute to reducing desertification, in addition to its great health and medical benefits."  
    He continued, "The research has achieved success in Samawah Governorate, and an introductory file for the cultivation of safflower will be printed and promoted by extension departments and directorates of agriculture," indicating that "the expansion of crop cultivation will contribute to maximizing state revenues."  
    Al-Nayef called on farmers to "diversify crops and not limit themselves to classic agriculture, such as wheat and barley, and some crops that the farmer still focuses on, and their economic returns are futile and immediate."
