Advisor to the Prime Minister for Elections Affairs, Abdul-Hussein Al-Hindawi, expected, on Thursday, that the United Nations would respond positively to the Iraqi government's call on election monitoring, stressing that postponing the elections is an idea, but it does not represent a total solution to the situation in Iraq.
Al-Hindawi said, "Iraq is the one who asked the United Nations to send a special international mission to monitor the elections," noting that "the latter is studying this decision after I sent letters to it from the Minister of Foreign Affairs in this regard."
Al-Hindawi expected "the near receipt of a positive decision from the United Nations in this regard, which will coincide with the annual renewal of the work of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) at the end of this month."
He stressed that "international monitoring does not solve all problems, but its presence is important to encourage people to vote first, to enhance confidence in the electoral process on the one hand, and to deter fraud and violations that may occur with this type of monitoring on the other side, which will be very important in all cases."
And Al-Hindawi stated that "the demonstrations, since the beginning of their launch, demanded that elections be held and that they be early according to a law and a new commission," noting that "there is a lot of concern among the demonstrators, as they believe that they are not organized and that their preparations are insufficient against the other forces."
He added, "There should be guarantees that the youth will be more organized," stressing that "postponing the elections is an idea, but it is not the solution."
Al-Hindawi warned that "the authorities concerned with the work of the Commission declared their readiness, and ended the period of voter registration, entities and political alliances, which reached about 44 coalitions, in addition to more than 3500 candidates from all parties."
The advisor to the prime minister stated that "the elections will take place on the specified date," expressing his hope that "they represent at least part of the solution to get out of this cycle in which the country has been living for long periods." Ended 29 / A43
