The Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq (IHEC) yesterday announced that it had chosen more than 245,000 employees from around the country to supervise the parliamentary elections slated to take place in May, the Anadolu Agency reported.

In a press conference, the head of the IHEC, Riyadh Al-Badran, said: “More than 445,000 applied for the job of electoral supervisor across the country.”

Badran said that the IHEC chose 245,392 to supervise the elections, noting that the commission set a number of criteria to choose the employees.

Some 7,367 nominees from 18 governorates are competing for 328 seats.

The IHEC said that 24 million of the 37 million Iraqis have the right to elect representatives in the upcoming elections.
