The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee revealed, on Wednesday, the results of its visit to the Iraqi-Turkish border, while indicating that it will present recommendations to Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi after learning about Turkish violations.
The head of the committee, Muhammad Reda Al Haider, said, according to the official media, that "as a security and defense committee, we arrived in Erbil and headed with the deputy head of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee to Dohuk and visited Zakho district," noting that "we intended the farthest possible point to be reached, which is the first border brigade between the region." and Turkey".
He added, "We have seen Turkish transgressions on points inside the Iraqi borders, and there are new attacks and developments from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) towards the Peshmerga and the border forces," adding, "The matter is very dangerous, and that this sector needs logistical support and new units."
He continued, "It is possible to set a deflection line for the Iraqi forces against the Turkish forces, as well as to deter the (PKK) forces," explaining, "Today we lost one of our members of the Peshmerga with sniper fire from an unknown source, either from the (PKK) or the Turkish forces, because the area is overlapping."
He stressed that "after the end of our visit to Amadiyah district, we will go to the north of the district to see the security situation there," noting that "we will write recommendations and points about what we saw to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces after we submit them through the Presidency of the House of Representatives."
Al Haider added, "Our reconnaissance visit aims to scrutinize and investigate the security of what is happening in the region," explaining that "the Presidency of the House of Representatives decided that a delegation from the region, the Kurdistan Parliament, the Asayish, and the Interior should accompany us."
