    Economy News _ Baghdad
Today, Sunday, Trade Minister Alaa Al-Jubouri announced that a shipment of wheat will arrive soon from Australia to Iraq, while another government official assured that the Iraqi state had managed to maintain market balance and food security in the country.
This came in a joint press conference held by the minister today with a group of general managers in the ministry on the occasion of launching the operations of preparing a new meal of flour and food basket items in Baghdad and all governorates in preparation for the month of Ramadan.
Al-Jubouri said at the conference, that the ministry has not imported wheat since 2020, and 2021, adding that it has recently carried out an operation to import this substance, and it will arrive soon from Australia.
On the effects of the war between Russia and Australia on the import of foodstuffs, the Minister of Trade said: There is no direct impact on the import process, but there is an impact on the transportation process, and the rise in shipping costs due to the ongoing conflict.
In turn, the Director General of the General Company for Foodstuff Trade in the Ministry of Trade, Muhammad Hanoun, said during the conference that Iraq has sufficient reserves of wheat until the start of the marketing season for this substance on the first of next April, adding, "We recently directed to start the marketing season in the southern and central governorates." .
He also pointed out that American, German and Canadian international companies submitted offers to the ministry to sell wheat to Iraq, stressing that the government is serious about securing this food item.
He continued by saying that the food basket distributed by the ministry contributed to maintaining market balance and food security in the country.
