Maher Hassan al-Atabi, owner of a brick factory on the outskirts of Baladrooz district, east of Diyala, told Shafaq News Agency, "Dozens of brick factory owners organized, today, a protest sit-in on Baladrooz - Mandali road, (35 km east of Baquba) to demand the restart and revive the suspended brick factories. many years ago."
He stressed that "more than 70 factories for the production of bricks have been suspended for many years due to the lack of government support for fuel, the smuggling of black oil approved in the operation of the factories, and the alarmingly high prices in the local markets."
Al-Otabi called on the Ministry of Oil, the local government and the security authorities to "stop the organized fuel smuggling operations that have disrupted and paralyzed the productive brick factories that were financing many provinces and producing high-quality and durable bricks called white gold for its specifications that exceed the bricks imported from neighboring countries."
Al-Otabi also called on the Ministry of Industry and the government to "stop the import of bricks, support production plants, allocate an operating room to restart brick factories and prevent the exploitation of fuel, "black oil" for other purposes."
Diyala officials confirm that 120 civil brick factories stopped working in Diyala during the previous years due to the lack of fuel (black oil) and the lack of economic feasibility, as well as the absence of refineries in Diyala, in addition to the random import of bricks from some neighboring countries, which caused the reluctance of plant owners. to exercise their profession.
