The Iraqi and Iranian foreign ministers agree to a "close meeting"
Shafaq News/ The Foreign Ministers of Iraq, Fouad Hussein and Iran, Hussein Amir Abdollahian, agreed on Friday, on the necessity of holding a "close meeting" between them.
This came during a phone call between them, according to a statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry received by Shafaq News Agency.
The statement stated that "the two ministers discussed, and views on, a set of issues of concern to bilateral, regional and global relations, and stressed the need to meet at the earliest opportunity to discuss developments in the region."
The two sides also touched on "the latest steps taken within the framework of bilateral relations, and they discussed issues of common interest, including regional and international developments, the Vienna negotiations and ways to strengthen bilateral relations."
Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein congratulated his Iranian counterpart Amir Abdollahian on the Iranian New Year and the blessed month of Ramadan, and gave a presentation on the latest developments, referring to his recent visit to Moscow and his talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. For his part, Amir Abdollahian congratulated his Iraqi counterpart on the blessed month of Ramadan, stressing the need to focus on dialogue and a diplomatic solution to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and the need to address the roots of the current crisis as a key to establishing peace and stability in the region.
The two ministers agreed on the need to meet in the coming days.
