Political circles in the Kurdistan region welcomed the report of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the Iranian bombing of Erbil, after its announcement, which contained a refutation of Tehran's story about the presence of the Mossad at the bombed site.
And Kurdish politicians called on the central government to proceed with sovereign legal procedures that protect the region from any future aggression.
"The federal government should send a complaint to the League of Arab States, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, and the United Nations," said Othman Ali Weisi, a legal advisor to the Parliament of the Kurdistan Region.
Members of the Kurdistan Parliament demanded that Tehran provide compensation for damages in the areas targeted by ballistic missiles, stressing that international law does not allow the region to file a complaint other than the federal government, which has tools that Erbil does not possess.
Rebwar Babki, a member of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, said, "Iran should compensate the Kurdistan region financially and morally, and apologize to the people and the government of the region."
Romeo Hakkari, a member of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, described the Iranians’ claim of the presence of an Israeli headquarters in the bombed-out civilian area as “arguments that we hope will not be repeated,” he said.
The committee’s recommendations did not include the internationalization of the issue of Iranian aggression, but the report, which was prepared by security experts, revealed that no evidence was found to support the Iranian narrative, while experts believe that the attack carried a political message aimed at putting pressure on the Kurdistan Democratic Party and its allies in the file of forming a government.
