On Sunday, 12 members of Kurdistan Parliament announced their resignation in protest against the extension of the legislative term for the current parliamentary session.
The parliamentarians who resigned are from: the Kurdistan Justice Group (formerly the Kurdistan Islamic Group), members of the Change bloc, the New Generation Movement bloc, in addition to independent parliamentarians.
The head of the Kurdistan Justice Group, Abdul Sattar Majid, said in a press conference he held with those independent members in the parliament building today, that these representatives had previously expressed their position that they were against the illegal extension of the life of Kurdistan Parliament.
He added, "We, the 12 parliamentarians, have decided to resign and boycott this illegal act practiced by the authority in the region," adding, "We will work together to continue pressing for parliamentary elections as soon as possible."
