Al-Kazemi at the Jeddah Summit: Political difficulties facing the emerging democracy in Iraq
Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi confirmed on Saturday; The country's remote democracy is facing political difficulties.
Al-Kazemi said in his speech at the Jeddah Summit, held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and followed by Shafak News Agency; "We meet today amidst sensitive regional and international challenges, and also amid hopes and aspirations that cooperation efforts will bear fruit, build bridges of trust and prevail over the language of dialogue."
Al-Kazemi added; "Iraq, with the cooperation of its neighbors, friends and brothers, had a key role in fighting terrorism and defeating ISIS, but we still have an additional path to uprooting terrorism."
He stressed, "Strengthening national, regional and international efforts to develop a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism, and to dry up its sources of financing through joint security cooperation and the exchange of information and experiences."
"The repercussions of the crisis in Ukraine require intensifying regional and international efforts to find quick solutions and unify efforts to ensure food security for our peoples and secure energy supplies," he added.
He pointed out that "the Middle East region has been significantly affected by the consequences of climate change, the water crisis, and the risks of desertification, in addition to all of these health challenges due to the emergence and spread of epidemics such as the Corona pandemic."
Regarding Iraqi political affairs, Al-Kazemi said; "The constitutional democratic system in Iraq is approaching two decades, after decades of dictatorship, and this emerging democracy is still progressing despite major challenges and crises."
He pointed out that "there are still political difficulties after the elections, which confirm the need to preserve the principles of democracy in public life, a path that requires more time and the accumulation of experiences."
He stressed, "After we have passed the stage of expelling ISIS from our land, our military and security forces have taken over the security file, and they are constantly evolving to preserve Iraq's security and the capabilities of our people."
He pointed out that "Iraq seeks to enhance the environment for dialogue in the Middle East, and considers that the atmosphere of economic cooperation and security coordination between all brothers in the region directly serves the interests of our people as well as the interests of all the peoples of the region."
He noted that "the tripartite meetings and conferences that brought together Iraq, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have produced a common vision to open up the ranges of cooperation and integration in various fields."
