Today, Saturday, the General Traffic Directorate confirmed that it is not responsible for paving, covering and furnishing internal and external streets, but rather traffic signs.

A traffic statement stated, "The Traffic Directorate's main work is to regulate traffic in all squares, intersections and main streets, organize the process of registering vehicles of all kinds, and issue and grant driving licenses in accordance with Traffic Law No. (8) of 2019".

He added that "coordination with the relevant authorities related to its work with our directorate, which is (Baghdad Municipality, Roads and Bridges, Ministry of Transport and Baghdad Governorate)," noting that "the directorate is not responsible for paving, cladding and furnishing internal and external streets, but traffic signs and traffic lights."

He continued, "This work is at the heart of the work of the Municipality of Baghdad, the provincial municipalities, and the Roads and Bridges Department of the Ministry of Housing and Construction, and this is not a shirk from responsibility, but it is a clarification for the Iraqi citizen."

He pointed out that "roads and bridges collection fees are collected in the Traffic Directorate, but go to the Ministry of Finance (the public treasury), and the Ministry of Finance is responsible for distributing all the revenues it receives from all government departments."

He pointed out that "developing the traffic system and working according to technology, development and modernity, this is the matter of the Traffic Directorate, and work is underway on many steps, including archiving the fines that were previously scattered electronically, issuing the recognized international driving licence, translated into 10 languages, and introducing the electronic check system or the so-called vibrator."

And he indicated that "the traffic has opened 10 sites so far to register vehicles, transfer ownership and issue driving licenses to absorb the momentum in the province of Baghdad, as well as regulate traffic and traffic during official occasions, holidays and religious occasions."

The directorate called on "citizens to be aware of the work carried out by the Traffic Directorate and to assist it in respecting and implementing the traffic law."
