Iraq announces its need for 35,000 megawatts of energy: the electrical connection will not achieve complete sufficiency
Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced today, Sunday, its need for 35,000 megawatts of energy to achieve complete sufficiency, noting that the electrical connection will not achieve sufficiency for Iraq.
Ministry spokesman Ahmed Moussa told Shafaq News Agency, "The electrical connection with neighboring countries will not achieve self-sufficiency for the national system," noting that "Iraq needs between 14 to 15 thousand megawatts in order to keep pace with the demand, as we need 35,000 megawatts to cover request in full.
Musa added, "Although the electrical interconnection projects will not fill the deficit, they will be an important part of diversifying energy sources and will achieve good stability for the electrical network and address the issue of low voltages, in addition to that it will supply parts of the energy that Iraq needs until the completion of the infrastructure and production stations as it will be established." To enter Iraq as an important member of the energy market because of its strategic location first, and it will also be a country that passes energy to other countries."
Moussa pointed out that "Iraq has completed all the technical commitments to connect with Turkey, as the 132K line in (Sloby - Fayda) was completed, passing through the island of Mosul and the Al-Kasik station 400," noting that "the final operation was signed with Turkey to pass the power of 300 megawatts, but the rise of Electricity prices and the increase in demand for gas disrupted implementation.
He pointed out that "there is work to complete a joint electrical connection with Jordan, and the American General Electric Company is working on establishing a reisha-Qaim line and Al-Qaim transformer station."
He explained that "Iraq also signed with Saudi Arabia the joint interconnection agreement, and we identified the routes of the lines, we identified the connection points, and we determined the mechanism by which the first, including 1000 megawatts, would work," noting that "Iraq also signed with the Gulf Interconnection Authority, and we have accomplished important parts of the connection on the Iraqi side."
And he indicated, "Iraq is negotiating to settle the tariff and establish the Al-Faw line at the Al-Zour station inside Kuwait, and now work is underway on that."
It is noteworthy that Iraq suffers from a lack of energy supply, especially in the summer with high temperatures as a result of the insufficient fuel supplied to power stations, while private generators provide citizens with energy in return for high wages that burden citizens.
