Shafaq News/ Kuwait announced that the Gulf electrical interconnection project will provide Kuwait with 2500 megawatts and Iraq with 500 megawatts, indicating that the agreement is expected to be signed within the next few days with the Electricity Interconnection Authority of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
The Director-General of the Kuwait Fund for Economic Development, Marwan Al-Ghanim, spoke about the details of the project to develop the electrical interconnection system and connect to the southern Iraq network, saying that "the project, which will be financed by the Kuwait Fund, Qatar Fund for Development and the Electricity Interconnection Authority, has great technical and economic benefits, as it will increase the capacity and efficiency of the networks. Electricity for the member states of the authority, strengthening the national electric networks in the Gulf states, and increasing their reliability, to ensure the sustainability of electric energy at all times.
He added, "The agreement that is expected to be signed in the next few days with the GCC Electricity Interconnection Authority, Kuwait will be the largest beneficiary of the project. Its operational efficiency, and the project will also have benefits for the network in southern Iraq, where it will be provided with a reliable electric capacity of at least 500 megawatts to meet part of the demand for electric power, and improve the performance and stability of the Iraqi network.
He pointed out that "the project, which is financed by the Fund with two loans, each worth 35 million dinars, consists of the construction of a new interconnection station within the Gulf interconnection system at the Wafra station in Kuwait on an area of about 62,000 square meters and the extension of 400 kV dual overhead transmission lines. The circuit from Al-Wafra station to Al-Faw station in the south of the Republic of Iraq, which is affiliated with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, is about 295 kilometers long.
It is noteworthy that the Electricity Interconnection Authority of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf is a Gulf joint stock company established on July 29, 2001, headquartered in Dammam, and owned by the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
