    President Abdel Latif Jamal Rashid received today, Tuesday, the Minister of Transport, Razak Muheibis.
    The meeting discussed, according to a statement by the Presidency of the Republic, the most important files in the transport sector and ways to improve services provided to citizens in a way that meets their needs and keeps pace with the development the world is witnessing in this field.
    The President of the Republic stressed "the importance of the transport sector and its development," indicating "the need for it to be among the government's priorities in implementing its program," pointing to "some problems that this sector suffers from, especially with regard to the main land roads that connect the governorates, due to the poor condition of some of these sectors."     Rasheed touched on the issue of Iraqi Airways, stressing "the need to work quickly to address the defects and problems that the airlines suffer from, in order to preserve their good reputation that characterized them."
    He added, "Airlines and airports are the civilized interface of any country," stressing "the importance of adhering to international standards in terms of punctuality, cleanliness, and service provision."
    The President's speech dealt with "the issue of Iraqi ports and railways, and emphasized the importance of developing them in a way that facilitates their services to citizens and enhances the economy."
    For his part, the Minister of Transport stated that "the future will enhance the value of the transport sector because of Iraq's important and vital geographical location linking Asian countries with European countries," then the minister reviewed "the ministry's plans to develop the sector and the obstacles facing this trend."
    The Minister of Transport stated that "a detailed study of the airline file was drawn up, identifying the defect sites and problems that the main joints in this institution suffer from, and putting in place effective plans to address them."
    With regard to Iraqi ports, the minister indicated that "one of the ministry's priorities is currently completing the Al-Faw port project, and working to benefit from global experiences in training Iraqi cadres in the field of port management, and the ministry plans to hold a scientific conference to present ideas and visions in this field."
    And the Minister of Transport continued, "There are railway projects that are being planned for completion to link Iraq with neighboring countries," noting that "there is an action plan to complete the Baghdad train that includes expansion and an increase in the number of its stations, as it is considered an outlet for the capital and a means to reduce bottlenecks in it."
