    Today, Tuesday, the United Nations Development Program and Germany signed an agreement under which the German government granted an amount of 826,250 euros for programs to support the capabilities of criminal justice institutions in Iraq and to improve the skills of conducting effective interviews with suspects that take into account international human rights principles.
    A statement by the United Nations in Iraq, received by (Al-Oula News), stated that “the grant supports programs to implement new regulations and policies such as the Standard Standard Operational Controls for Criminal Investigation and the Local Police Roadmap. In an effort to enhance criminal justice services in Iraq, the project supports capacity-building activities for investigation officers, investigative judges, and relevant directorates.
    He added that "the security sector reform project, which is implemented by the UNDP for the benefit of the Iraqi government, provides specialized support and advice to security sector institutions in partnership with the National Security Adviser, the Police Affairs Agency in the Ministry of Interior, the Supreme Judicial Council and civil society organizations in Iraq," noting that "with this grant, The contribution of the German side for the security sector reform project in Iraq rises to 1,836,250 euros.
    The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Iraq, Aoki Lootsma, said, according to the statement: “We extend our gratitude and appreciation to the government of Germany, the strategic partner of the UNDP, for its broad support for safety and security programs in Iraq that support the country’s transition to stability and development in the long term,” noting that “this The project would support the Iraqi police by strengthening their investigative capabilities and ensuring compliance with human rights principles during their criminal proceedings.”
    For his part, Chargé d'Affairs of the German Embassy in Baghdad (Agency) Philip Holzapfel said, "It is important that programs to enhance the capabilities of law enforcement and criminal justice take into account the principles of human rights and thus contribute to building a sovereign, stable and democratic Iraqi state that its people trust," explaining that "this is why This is why Germany continues to support these efforts, which are being implemented by the United Nations Development Program in Iraq, to ​​enable Iraqi police interrogators to conduct interrogations more effectively and to move away from coercive methods.”
