    Today, Wednesday, Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani sponsored the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Development Program to enhance the fight against corruption.
    The media office of the Prime Minister said in a statement: "The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, sponsored today the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Iraqi government and the United Nations Development Program, which includes cooperation in the field of combating corruption and strengthening the principle of transparency, accountability and integrity in the public and private sectors. He signed on behalf of the Iraqi side." Director of the Prime Minister's Office, Ihsan Al-Awadi.
    And the Prime Minister expressed, according to the statement, "his appreciation to the United Nations Development Program and international development partners for supporting Iraq in the field of combating corruption."
    Al-Sudani affirmed, "The current government has paid great attention to the anti-corruption file, and has included it among the most important priorities of its program. It has reinforced this with procedural steps, targeting hotbeds of corruption in state institutions, and it continues to pursue the corrupt and those involved in stealing public money, and recovering the looted funds."
    He pointed to "the government's determination to cooperate with international institutions and organizations, to develop mechanisms to combat corruption and reduce its risk in undermining the goals of sustainable development plans, impeding the advancement of the economy, and the implementation of the government's approach to reform."
    The statement concluded, "In light of the memorandum, the United Nations Development Program provides support to the Iraqi government in strengthening its steps to combat corruption, and includes developing the capabilities of anti-corruption bodies, and supporting strategic and legal frameworks in line with the United Nations Convention against Corruption, as well as joint cooperation in creating an environment." suitable for dialogue, urging social actors to report corruption, and promoting means of transparency and accountability in the public and private sectors.
