Spokesman for the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, Jutiar Adel

The authorities of the Kurdistan region of Iraq objected to the decision of the Iraqi Supreme Court to prevent the transfer of funds from the state treasury to the region.
A spokesman for the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, Jutiar Adel, said in a statement that "the illegal decision issued by an illegal court will affect the mutual (understanding)" between the Kurdish authorities in northeastern Iraq and the central government in Baghdad.

This came in response to a ruling issued by the Federal Supreme Court in Iraq, yesterday, Wednesday, that cancels a series of decisions issued by the Baghdad government to transfer funds to the Kurdistan Regional Government to pay the salaries of 2021 and 2022, confirming that these transfers violate the Iraq Budget Law for the year 2021 and consider them unconstitutional.
The ruling came in response to a lawsuit filed by independent MP Mustafa Sanad, who praised the decision, saying that it "stopped the financial bleeding."
The decision, which casts doubt on the future payment of salaries and the fragile relationship between the KRG and Baghdad, cannot be appealed.
The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, said in a statement that the decision "does not only target state employees and the people of Kurdistan who are citizens of Iraq, but also targets the entire political process and stability."
The Associated Press quoted an official in the regional government who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the issue, that "the Kurdistan Regional Government will hold talks with the federal government to find a way to return things to normal."
