Kuwaiti media said that a recent negotiation session will be held between the joint Kuwaiti-Iraqi legal technical committee in Kuwait on May 7.
According to Al-Qabas newspaper, the aim of the meeting will be to continue talks regarding the demarcation of the maritime borders beyond Mark 162, pointing out that the next meeting will be the third between the two sides since the resumption of negotiations.
Al-Qabas quoted sources as saying that there is a "consensus between Kuwait and Iraq on the basis of a specific British map."
She explained that “the talks include several details, and therefore it is likely that they will take time, even if there is a desire between the two countries to close this file,” noting that “the matter requires political will.”
In 1993, the United Nations demarcated the land borders between the two countries after Iraq invaded Kuwait, but the demarcation process did not include the length of their maritime borders, and left it to the two countries to find a solution to it.
