Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani stressed the importance of training workers to fully manage the production process in Karbala refinery, by benefiting from international experience.
And the Ministry of Oil stated, in a statement followed by (Al-Mada), that “Abdul-Ghani met with the president and members of a consortium of Korean companies led by Hyundai, in the presence of the general manager of the Oil Projects Company, and the general manager of the Central Refineries Company, to find out about plans to gradually increase production to reach the design capacities according to the planned timing.” .
During the meeting, Abdul-Ghani stressed, according to the statement, “the importance of training workers from national companies, to fully manage the production process in the refinery by benefiting from international experience and advanced technology in the refining industry,” stressing “the economic importance of the Karbala refinery with a capacity of 140,000 barrels per day.” And its contribution to meeting a large part of the local need, in terms of petroleum products, of high quality.”
For his part, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee Ali Al-Mashkoor said, in a statement to the official news agency, that "self-sufficiency in gas will not be achieved except with the presence of major projects after launching a licensing round to produce the required quantities instead of importing them."
Al-Mashkoor added, “The quantities that are imported from Iran, Qatar, or even from other countries can be easily covered by operating some existing factories or refineries.”
He pointed out that "the Karbala refinery has worked at its full capacity, and it will provide approximately 40-60% of the imported quantities, and finding such solutions will lead Iraq to finding sufficient quantities that make us need to import, but it is possible to achieve surplus quantities that we export."
In addition, Representative Mahmoud Al-Qaisi counted, “The Karbala refinery is the first strategic national achievement since 2003, as it will provide 3 billion dollars for the Iraqi treasury; And it stops the depletion of public budget funds that are allocated for the purchase of gasoline from abroad.
Al-Qaisi added, "The people see real achievements from Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani and his government team."
The Karbala refinery started production earlier in an official and popular presence, and the director of the Karbala refinery, Muhammad Fazaa, had confirmed earlier that the daily liquidation operations would reach the limits of 140,000 barrels, and he clarified the planned daily production volume of gasoline.
