    The Minister of Industry and Minerals, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, discussed today, Tuesday, with the Russian Ambassador, Bruce Kotrachev, and the Australian Ambassador, Paula Canley, opportunities for cooperation and strengthening industrial partnerships.

    The ministry said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Minister of Industry met with Kotrachev, and they discussed the procedures for implementing the project to rehabilitate and establish glass and ceramic factories in Anbar, according to the partnership contract concluded between the Federation of Russian Companies and the General Company for Glass and Refractories, in the presence of the Director General of the Investment Department in the ministry." and the general manager of the aforementioned company.
    During the meeting, the minister stressed "the need to expedite the completion of the necessary procedures for the project by the Federation of Russian Companies, as it is considered one of the important projects for the Ministry and the Anbar Province," noting that "there is a great failure by the Federation of Russian Companies in implementing the project."
    And he stressed, "the necessity of working hard in implementing the project and adhering to the specified timelines, otherwise the contract will be terminated in accordance with the Iraqi frameworks and laws in force."

    The statement added, "The minister discussed during the meeting the request and desire of the Australian side to work in Iraq through investment opportunities and projects offered by the Ministry of Industry."
    The minister referred to "the ministry's direction and vision towards announcing investment opportunities and projects to strengthen the Iraqi industry and establishing industrial projects that serve the country for the purpose of supplementing the state's general budget in light of the ministerial platform of the current government," stressing "the ministry's desire to strengthen cooperation with Australia in various industrial fields and look forward to more Joint work during the coming period, especially in the phosphate, iron, cement and pharmaceutical industries.
    He pointed out, "The ministry's interest in the file of the pharmaceutical industry, since local production only meets (15%) of Iraq's need, and the remaining percentage depends on imports in huge amounts."
    The statement indicated that "the minister reviewed the investment opportunities offered for minerals, including sulfur, cement and phosphates, as Iraq is the second largest reserves of phosphates in the world in addition to the availability of high-purity silica ores and other raw materials that can be found," stressing "the need to conclude partnership agreements in the fields of Iron, phosphate, and pharmaceutical industries, in light of the ministry's direction to focus on strategic industries in the country to move and support the local economy, expressing readiness to cooperate with the Australian side in all industrial fields. The importance of sending scholarships and fellowships to Australia and the possibility of visiting Australian companies to Iraq were also discussed during the meeting.     For her part, the Australian ambassador stated that "her country's government is serious about working with Iraq in all fields and is ready to encourage Australian companies to enter into fruitful business partnerships with the ministry in the field of phosphate, iron and pharmaceutical industries."[/size]
