The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Committee stressed, on Wednesday, the necessity of accelerating the legislation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law due to its importance during the current stage.

Committee member Amir Al-Mamouri said in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, “There is a parliamentary consensus to review previous legislation and adapt it constitutionally, especially the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. (50) of 2017.”
He added, "The drug law is devoid of strict penalties corresponding to deterrence, commensurate with the harm drugs cause to social aspects."
Al-Maamouri pointed out that “there is a great consensus to move forward with more severe and stringent penalties against drug dealers and traffickers.”
A member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Waad Al-Qaddu, considered that the scourge of drugs has become a greater threat to Iraq than terrorism, pointing out that drugs pose major challenges to the security forces. Ended / 25 H
