Deputy member of the Parliamentary Oil and Resources Committee, Bassem Al-Gharabi, made a special statement to Earth News regarding the postponement of the legislation of the Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Law in Iraq.
In his statement, MP Al-Gharabi stressed today, Thursday, “the importance of the Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Law as one of the basic laws in the Iraqi constitution, noting that it regulates the relationship between the center and the region with regard to the first national wealth, which includes oil.”
Representative Al-Gharabi pointed out that “legislating this law is necessary to solve many problems between the center and the region, and represents the implementation of Article 112 of the Iraqi Constitution, which relates to the first national wealth.”
Representative Al-Gharabi explained that “the issue of political consensus hinders the legislation of this law, as political consensus is required to pass it.” He pointed out that the current government, in accordance with the government coalition agreements, was obligated to legislate this law within six months of the formation of the government.
Representative Al-Gharabi concluded by emphasizing “the importance of the draft law including interpretations of decisions issued by the Federal Supreme Court, and the necessity of regulating the issue of powers with regard to oil management and marketing.”
