On Tuesday, the director of Al-Baghdadi district in Anbar Governorate, Sharhabeel Al-Obaidi, accused the Ministry of Water Resources of obstructing the construction of 3 dams to store water in the western regions of the governorate.

Al-Obaidi said in a statement to Al-Ma’louma Agency, “The local government of Anbar has addressed many times the Ministry of Water Resources to construct 3 giant dams on Wadi Houran in the Al-Baghdadi district of Hit district, west of Anbar, to store rainwater and floods coming from neighboring countries, but the relevant ministry rejected this.” Projects under the pretext of the lack of a financial budget, even though these dams are sufficient to address the shortage in water releases coming from Turkey.”
He added, "The local government of Anbar has prepared an extensive study to establish a giant water dam, as Chinese companies have expressed their desire to construct the dam at a financial cost estimated at 6 trillion dinars. The construction of the dam will take about 4 years, but the Ministry of Water Resources rejected the offers submitted by the Chinese companies and postponed its construction until later." Unnamed ".
Al-Obaidi stated, “The goal of constructing the dam is to be followed by the construction of two other dams to ward off the dangers resulting from floods for fear of drowning parts of Baghdad Governorate and some southern governorates as a result of the Haditha Water Dam not absorbing the quantities of water resulting from rains and torrents coming from neighboring countries during the next stage, not to mention Benefit from this project in storing water and using it when needed.” End / 12a
