Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani said that corruption is the biggest threat to future development in Iraq, stressing: We asked Interpol to arrest and extradite former high-ranking Iraqi officials who embezzled more than $2.5 billion in tax funds.
Al-Masalla publishes screenshots of Al-Sudani’s article published by the British newspaper The Guardian:
The tragic events in Gaza bring back painful memories for the Iraqi people
-There is an urgent need for critical humanitarian aid
We have solidarity and a strong stance with the Palestinian people
Our country has committed to providing significant assistance to the people of Gaza
We are working with our international partners to bring this tragedy to a quick end
We stressed with our international partners during the Cairo Peace Summit that the destruction practiced by the occupation forces must stop.
It is extremely important that the region does not slide back into instability and conflict again
    - Iraq hopes that the region can move forward and address common challenges through effective cooperation
Our country worked hard to establish stability
    - Over the past year, my government has paved the way to meet the aspirations of the Iraqi people and support their basic needs
The tripartite budget focuses on modernizing our infrastructure and creating job opportunities
The government is focusing on attracting foreign investment, strengthening the private sector, and addressing important issues, especially in education and health care
The government has taken important steps to restore Iraq’s reputation on the global stage
We emphasized Iraq’s decisive role in working to protect political and economic security in the region through cooperation with our international partners
ISIS gangs no longer exist except in small pockets in Iraq
Our special forces uncovered a series of attacks planned by ISIS in Europe, including the United Kingdom
We will ensure that the threat of ISIS gangs is ended locally and internationally by continuing to work with our global security partners
    - Corruption remains a major challenge
    – Corruption is the biggest threat to future development in Iraq
As part of our anti-corruption campaign, we have asked Interpol to arrest and extradite high-ranking former Iraqi officials who have embezzled more than $2.5 billion in tax funds.
We have recovered a significant amount of stolen tax money and will bring those responsible to justice. This requires continued cooperation with partners such as the UK.
Our new international partnerships go beyond defense and security
Iraq has become a place for international companies to invest and work, especially in the energy sector
During the first year of the government, we signed major investment deals, which indicates the growing international confidence in the Iraqi economy
We will confirm our pivotal role in the region through partnerships and investment in our untapped potential
    – We act as a gateway to Asia and Europe
With this new role, Iraq will be able to help achieve broader regional prosperity
Iraq is on a positive path, a path that others thought was not possible a few years ago
    - There is still much to be done and we are committed to ensuring that this continues for all Iraqis
