The Prime Minister's Advisor for Transport Affairs, Nasser Saleh Al-Asadi, announced today, Sunday, the completion of the basic plan for the Baghdad Metro project, while indicating the preparation of a plan to organize transportation in Iraq.
Al-Asadi said, "An integrated plan has been prepared that will start from the capital, Baghdad, to reorganize the transportation sector in Iraq, as well as adding some new programs to the transportation sector, such as the metro."
He added, "The basic plan for the Baghdad Metro has now been completed, and is now in the process of negotiating with the project's private consultant for the purpose of directly designing the project and putting it forward for implementation."
Regarding the rest of the transportation sectors, Al-Asadi indicated that “there will be an expanded meeting with the Ministry of Transport, the General Traffic Directorate, and the Baghdad Municipality, regarding identifying new transportation lines and the actual need for the private transportation sector and public transportation in the city.”
