The private sector, with the approval of the Central Bank, launched the Green Bank Project, in the presence of the Minister of Environment, Engineer Nizar Amidi, the Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, Jassim Abdel Aziz Hammadi, and the Governor of the Central Bank, Ali Mohsen Ismail, as well as the presence of the Chairman of the National Investment Authority and members of the House of Representatives for Health and Parliamentary Environment, on the sidelines of the Eighth Conference of the Parties. The 20th Climate Change Conference held in Dubai.
In a statement seen by Al-Iqtisad News, Amidi said, “The Green Bank is a public or semi-public financial institution that uses innovative financing techniques and market development tools in cooperation with the private sector, aiming to accelerate the application of clean energy technologies.”
He explained that "green banks use public funds to increase the effectiveness of private investment in clean energy technologies and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy. They work to combat climate change through financing to accelerate the transition to clean energy that is not harmful to the environment. They also work to spread clean energy instead of of maximizing profits.”
