Baghdad: Haider Al-Jaber,
the General Command of the Armed Forces is planning to implement a qualitative shift in the joints of the Iraqi army, so that it can keep pace with geopolitical developments in the region. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, confirmed that the Iraqi army has created great epics with its sacrifices and protected the nation with the blood of its people, pledging, “We will be Supporting you, preserving your rights, so that you will be at the forefront of the armies, in terms of combat level and high readiness.”
2024 is scheduled to be a year of development in terms of equipment and personnel, according to Major General Tahseen Al-Khafaji, spokesman for the Joint Operations Command.
Al-Khafaji told “Al-Sabah”: “In 2024, we aspire to develop the Iraqi army through arming, training, and possessing advanced weapons systems in various fields,” and added, “It is very important to gain great experience in fighting terrorist organizations, and it is important to develop these systems and experience from Through armament and what is being planned for the long term, especially our vision of developing air defence, air force, infantry, armour, navy and army aviation.”
He continued: "We aspire for the year 2024 to be a year of development, building and progress for the Iraqi army," and stated that "we are interested in arming and training in various fields in addition to developing personnel and equipment."
The Iraqi army was disbanded after the occupation of Baghdad in 2003, to be formed with a new leadership and according to a modern, advanced system, after which it fought fierce battles against terrorist organizations, leading to street battles between 2014 and 2017 to liberate Iraqi lands from the terrorist “ISIS” gangs.
Security expert Sarmad Al-Bayati called for diversifying the Iraqi army's sources of armament, especially with talk of the withdrawal of international coalition forces.
Al-Bayati told Al-Sabah: “In terms of the number of personnel, the Iraqi army has a good number, and it also has an armored division, and it needs a mechanized infantry division.” He added, “The Iraqi army complains of weak aerial reconnaissance, and we need to be more equipped with modern technologies.” Because most wars are fought using such methods.”
Al-Bayati continued: “The Iraqi army is present and very strong, and the more the army is strengthened, the more reassured it will be against any external aggression.” He warned that “our skies are penetrated and this problem must be addressed by increasing spending and allocating very high financial allocations to bring in air defense equipment to detect aircraft and targets.” ", calling for "diversifying the sources of armament, especially with talk of the withdrawal of international coalition forces."
