Independent MP Basem Khashan confirmed, on Friday, that he would continue to judicially pursue the Speaker of Parliament expelled from the Federal Supreme Court, Muhammad al-Halbousi, indicating that al-Halbousi’s fate would be imprisonment.
Khashan said in a televised interview followed by Mawazine News, “Al-Halbousi committed crimes against honor and are destined for imprisonment. I dealt with Al-Halbousi’s cases objectively and legally.”
He added, “The evidence accumulated against Al-Halbousi, and the Federal Court had no choice but to terminate his membership,” noting that “approving the nomination of the five candidates for the Presidency of Parliament is “non-objective.”
Khashan pointed out, “The lawsuit I submitted before the Federal Court concerns the conditions for nomination for the Presidency of Parliament.”
He pointed out that “accountability and justice relate to belonging to the Baath Party and not glorifying the grave of Saddam, and that glorifying the former regime would be a reason for excluding any candidate. ”
