The government’s move to import livestock and sheep from various origins to reduce the increase in red meat prices in the country, which has witnessed a significant increase recently, was welcomed by citizens, especially with the approaching month of Ramadan.
Despite the availability of green pastures for livestock owners, their prices have risen significantly due to the departure of most shepherds to the desert.
In an interview with Al-Sabah, a member of the Parliamentary Agriculture and Marshlands Committee, Thaer Al-Jubouri, considered the government’s trend towards importing a very important matter because the Ministry of Agriculture is the only monitor to follow up on the increase in prices, especially for meat, which is considered essential for the lives of citizens, noting that the increase in prices affects the economic situation. For the citizen, especially as we approach the holy month of Ramadan.
He pointed out that opening outlets to import some materials makes prices proportionate, provided that they do not have a direct impact on local production.
For his part, member of the Parliamentary Economy and Trade Committee, Kazem Al-Fayad, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that the Ministry of Agriculture’s decision to open the import of livestock and cows is reassuring to citizens as it contributed to the decline in meat prices, expressing his hope for a similar government step regarding chickens, eggs, and ration card items. To influence citizens positively by reducing their prices in the markets.
