    Committee member Representative Ibtisam Al-Hilali said: “The winter season had heavy rains, which led to the filling of some dams and the rising levels of the Tigris River. As for the Euphrates, it was fed by the Tigris River by approximately 150 cubic meters in order for its levels to remain stable,” indicating the possibility of “transforming the crisis.” "There are opportunities for success with new administrative procedures by the Ministry of Water Resources and by the government, by preserving every drop of water, as well as modern irrigation techniques participating in water conservation."



    She explained, “The water quota negotiations are still weak and have not served their purpose, and a short while ago we hosted the Turkish ambassador for dialogue regarding the agricultural aspect,” pointing out that “the Turkish ambassador complained about the statements of cutting off trade, while the committee confirmed Ankara’s dependence on Iraq in the commercial aspect.” It is assumed that Iraqi dealings with Turkey will be respected, water damage due to climate change will be shared, and Iraq’s water share will be released fairly.”

    The representative added, "Turkey is still committed to its opinion and considers the water issue a political issue, and it must be exchanged for oil as an alternative," indicating that "the Agriculture Committee and the government are insisting that Iraq's water share from Turkey not be less than 6-8 thousand cubic meters per second, and we are waiting for it to be sent." The government is a good negotiator to extract rights and end the file,” according to the official Al-Sabah newspaper.

    Regarding the local product, the representative said: “Iraq has sufficient local products of eggs and meat, but the lack of control over the border crossings affects the local product and the achievement of self-sufficiency,” stressing that the committee “discussed the matter and proposed a customs tariff while hosting the director of the border crossings and the customs authority.” We have not obtained new results yet."
