A member of the Agriculture, Water and Marshes Committee, Thaer Mohaif, stressed the need to submit to the Turkish side in order to recognize Iraq’s water rights, while criticizing the performance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this file and holding it responsible for the crisis.
Makhif said in a press interview seen by “Taqaddam” that “the government of the Sudanese Prime Minister has moved this file, but it does not amount to a great need for water, in addition to the lack of impact of the negotiations on the Turkish side, in addition to the lack of interest on the part of the concerned parties.”
He added, “Iraq’s positions and negotiations are timid and have no effect, and all the Iraqi interlocutors who were sent to engage in dialogue with Turkey and Iran are as if they are begging for their rights,” pointing out that “the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is primarily responsible for this file, and it must be a position, and this is money that was not “We touched it before.”
He explained, “Turkey is the one that leads everything and is under its control, and even the negotiations are devoted to its interest, in addition to not making any concessions, despite the pressure files we have that can be used and subject Turkey to recognition of our rights approved by international and international laws, and those related to the riparian countries.”
