    Information / Baghdad...
A sudden decision was taken by the Kurdistan Democratic Party, headed by Masoud Barzani, to announce its withdrawal from the Kurdistan Region elections scheduled to be held next June, due (apparently) to the Federal Court’s decision to abolish the quota in the region.

Political parties confirm that the quota is controlled by Barzani's party, and that representatives of minorities do not represent their components, but rather represent the Democratic Party.
A statement from the Kurdistan Democratic Party stated, “It is in the interest of our people and our country for our party not to comply with an unconstitutional decision and a system imposed from outside the will of the people of Kurdistan and its constitutional institutions, and not to participate in an election conducted in violation of the law and the constitution and under the umbrella of an imposed electoral system.”
Addressing the citizens of the region, he added: “Here we place the parties of the State Administration Alliance before their national responsibilities in implementing the constitution and all the provisions of the political and administrative agreement regarding the formation of the current government headed by Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, and unlike them, we cannot continue the political process.”

A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ghiyath Al-Sourji, commented on the Democratic Party’s decision, calling at the same time on the Kurdish parties to unify their decision.
Al-Sordi told Al-Maalouma, “The Federal Court set the number of members of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament at 100 seats, which requires the National Union and the Democratic Party to resolve their differences, especially since each party will not be able to achieve 51 seats to form the government.”
He stressed the necessity of "uniting the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and rejecting differences to form a Kurdistan government."
He stated that "the political map in the region will change, after the Federal Court decided to make the region multiple electoral districts, after it was one district."
He stressed, "The Kurdistan Democratic Party was the beneficiary of the quota system by nominating its members from other components to obtain additional seats."
He stated, "The representatives of the region affiliated with the Democratic Party do not represent their components, but rather represent the party."
Today, Tuesday, political analyst Qasim Al-Tamimi accused the Kurdistan Democratic Party, headed by Masoud Barzani, of obstructing the holding of the region’s elections.
Al-Tamimi told Al-Maalouma, “The Kurdistan Democratic Party’s announcement to boycott the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections opens the door to a new political conflict within the region, especially since the party controls the government and has armed forces affiliated with it.”

He added, "There is a major problem that will occur within the region, and the conflict will increase between the large parties controlling power, especially since the Democratic Party controls Erbil and Dohuk, while the Union has power and influence in Sulaymaniyah and Halabja, as the party's withdrawal from the elections will change the political map in the region."
He stated that "the withdrawal will create problems within the region, and this may be intended to postpone the elections to a date beyond that decided by the Federal Court next June, which is something that will push the other parties towards rejecting this measure, especially since everyone is waiting for the elections to be held so that there will be a legitimate government in Kurdistan." .
On the same level, political analyst Qasim Al-Gharibawi accused the Kurdistan Democratic Party of trying not to hand over power peacefully if elections were held without his participation.
Al-Gharibawi told Al-Maalouma, “The Democratic Party wants to mix the cards in the region, as its withdrawal from the elections is not a political decision as much as it is a public threat to all parties in the region and Baghdad,” noting that the party stated in its statement of withdrawal from the elections that it cannot continue. By a political process if its conditions are not implemented.”
He considered, "This position is a dangerous one, and a coup against the political process. The party uses a method of arm-twisting, either complying with its will or mixing the cards of the political process."
He expected that "the region's authority will not be handed over peacefully if elections are held, and this matter may create great strife and conflict within the region." Ended 25 n.
