Former MP Ghaleb Mohammed warned on Tuesday that Iraq would enter a new maze if OPEC learned that Barzani's party was smuggling oil to Turkey, pointing out the importance of the federal government's intervention to deal with the oil companies operating in the region and resolve financial matters with them.
Mohammed told Al-Maalouma, "The ruling party in the region, led by Masoud Barzani, continues to steal oil and smuggle it towards Turkish territory via tankers."
He added, "The oil is smuggled from the region to Turkish territory, and if the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) learns of this act, it will work to reduce Iraq's export quota according to the quantities smuggled from the region abroad."
He said, "The federal government must deal with the oil companies operating in the region in order to get rid of their dues and ensure that oil is not smuggled out of the country, without entering into a spiral with OPEC." End 25N
