Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadig announced today, Friday (September 6, 2024), that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will arrive in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, in the middle of this month.
Al-Sadiq said in press statements reported by Iranian media and followed by "Mawazine News" that "the security cooperation memoranda will be signed during the visit of Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, in the middle of this month."
He added, "Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian is expected to visit Baghdad this month, in response to an official invitation from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani."
Al-Sadiq added, "Massoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to leave for Iraq before heading to New York to attend the UN General Assembly meeting."
The Iranian ambassador to Baghdad indicated that "President Pezeshkian will visit Basra and Erbil if the conditions are right after visiting the holy Shiite shrines in Karbala, Najaf and Baghdad."
Last July, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani extended an official invitation to Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian to visit Iraq.
Pezeshkian had confirmed that his country pays great attention to Iraq, during a phone call with President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, according to what was announced by official Iranian media in early July.
