    Economy News - Follow-up
[rtl]Jordan has exported 37.1 gigawatts of electricity to the Iraqi grid since the electricity supply agreement between the two countries came into effect last February. This amount represents less than 1% of the total energy sold by the National Electricity Company.[/rtl]
[rtl]According to the recently released data from the National Electric Power Company of Jordan, these exports come from a total of 131.5 gigawatt hours that the company exported during the first seven months of the year, compared to 120.8 gigawatt hours during the same period last year, an increase of 8.9%.[/rtl]
[rtl]The supply capacity of the first phase is 40 megawatts reaching the Rutba area, while the second phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.[/rtl]
[rtl]After completion of the second phase, the total capacity that will be supplied to Iraq from Jordan will be about 150 megawatts, and with the development of the interconnection stages in the medium term, the supply capacity could reach 500 megawatts.[/rtl]
[rtl]In addition to the Iraqi grid, the company exported 4.1% GWh to the Iraqi border post of Trebil, compared to 3.7 GWh during the same comparison period.[/rtl]
[rtl]The Jordanian and Iraqi sides expect to complete the electrical interconnection project between the two countries by the end of April 2025.[/rtl]
[rtl]The two sides had signed a memorandum of understanding on December 29, 2018, between the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity and the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, with the aim of the two sides seeking to cooperate in the field of electricity and establish a synchronized electrical interconnection network between the two countries.[/rtl]
[rtl]On September 27, 2020, a contract for the sale of electricity was signed between the Jordanian National Electric Power Company and the General Company for Energy Transmission/Central Region, to provide the Iraqi side with an electrical capacity ranging between 150-200 megawatts.[/rtl]
