The Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee acknowledged today, Tuesday, the existence of a “kerosene” crisis, while pointing out the reasons for its shortage in Iraq.
“The Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee held a meeting to discuss the kerosene shortage crisis that has affected the supply of fuel to citizens,” said committee member MP Ali Saadoun Al-Lami in a statement received by Iraq Observer. He pointed out that “the meeting was attended by a group of officials in the oil sector, including Hamid Al-Zubaie, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, Haitham Ibrahim, General Manager of the Central Refineries Company, Hassan Karim, Deputy General Manager of the Central Refineries Company, Haider Sharif, Director of the Karbala Refinery, and Hussein Talib, General Manager of the Distribution of Oil Products.”
He added that “the meeting discussed the reasons for the current gas crisis,” stressing that “all attendees indicated that one of the main reasons is the ongoing maintenance at the Karbala refinery, in addition to the depletion of storage as a result of the use of large quantities of kerosene in the Ministry of Electricity stations during the summer due to the fluctuation in gas supply from Iran.”
Earlier, the Oil Products Company denied the existence of any kerosene crisis in Baghdad and a number of governorates, despite the queues of trucks in front of fuel stations.
