Shafaq News/ The US Ambassador to Baghdad, Elena Romansky, denied on Tuesday that the United States imposed its control over the skies of Iraq, while stressing her country's position of rejecting Iraq's violation of US sanctions in importing energy from Iran.
This came in her speech during her hosting of a dialogue seminar on the sidelines of the Middle East Research Institute (MERI) Forum held in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.
Romansky said, "America did not participate in Israel's attack on Iran," adding, "Iraq is a sovereign country, and we did not impose our control over its airspace."
She added: We seek to enable Iraq to use its energy sources and wealth in a modern and useful way that benefits it, adding: We want to improve the electricity network in Iraq so that Iraqis do not continue to suffer from energy shortages.
Regarding Iran's gas supplies to power plants in Iraq, Romansky said: There are sanctions imposed on Iran and we do not want any party to violate those sanctions and deliver money to Iran.
The US Ambassador called on Iraq to continue connecting electricity with neighboring countries, stressing that "Iraq should not violate US sanctions by importing energy from Iran under the pretext that it has a shortage of electricity."
Regarding the presence of US forces in Iraq, the ambassador said that her country's forces are present in Iraq to eliminate the remnants of ISIS, adding that Baghdad has taken a decision to transfer relations from the military field to other fields, and the United States seeks to enable Iraqi forces to take the lead in establishing security.
She stressed that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had informed America that the security decision regarding Iraq is exclusively issued by the government, noting that Iraq is an important country that can contribute significantly to the stability of the region.
